Frequently Asked Questions

Choosing someone to look after your home while you’re away is an important decision. Here are answers to some of the questions we’re asked most often. If you don’t see your question here, please contact us—we’d be pleased to help.

What is Home Watch?

Home Watch is a professional visual check of your home while you’re away. During each visit, we look for obvious signs of issues such as water leaks, storm damage, or security concerns that may require your attention. Following each visit, you’ll receive a report with our observations and date- and time-stamped photographs.

Who uses Clé Québec?

Clé Québec serves seasonal residents, second-home owners, frequent travellers, snowbirds, and homeowners who are away from their property for extended periods. We also assist homeowners who want a trusted local professional to regularly check on their property while they’re away.

What areas do you serve?

Clé Québec serves Old Québec and selected central neighbourhoods of Québec City. If you’re unsure whether your property falls within our service area, please contact us.

How is Home Watch different from Property Management?

Home Watch focuses on regularly checking your property while you’re away and keeping you informed through detailed reports. Property Management typically involves managing tenants, collecting rent, coordinating ongoing maintenance, and overseeing rental properties. Clé Québec does not provide property management services.

What do you check during a Home Watch visit?

Each Home Watch visit is tailored to your property and service agreement. During a typical visit, we perform visual checks of accessible areas and look for obvious signs of issues such as water leaks, plumbing problems, heating or cooling concerns, storm damage, signs of forced entry, and other conditions that may require your attention. We also verify that doors and windows appear secure and document our observations with date- and time-stamped photographs.

How often should my property be visited?

The ideal visit frequency depends on your property, the length of your absence, and your insurance policy requirements. If your insurer requires regular Home Watch visits while you’re away, we’ll work with you to establish a visit schedule that helps you meet those requirements.

Will I receive a report after each visit?

Yes. After every Home Watch visit, you’ll receive a detailed report summarizing our observations, along with date- and time-stamped photographs. If we identify an issue requiring your attention, we’ll notify you promptly.

Do you take photographs during each visit?

Yes. Photographs are an important part of our reporting process and help document our observations at the time of each visit. Date- and time-stamped photographs are included with your Home Watch report.

What happens if you discover a problem during a visit?

If we observe a condition requiring your attention, we’ll notify you promptly and provide details, including date- and time-stamped photographs. If requested, we can help coordinate access for your preferred contractor or service provider.

Do you offer Property Concierge services?

Yes. In addition to Home Watch, Clé Québec offers selected Property Concierge services, including preparing your home before your arrival, securing your property after your departure, coordinating contractor access, grocery delivery, and other property-related assistance tailored to your needs.

Can you meet contractors or service providers at my property?

Yes. If requested, we can provide access for your preferred contractor or service provider, receive deliveries, and help secure the property once the visit is complete. We can also keep you informed throughout the visit, if requested.

Can you prepare my home before I arrive?

Yes. If requested, we can help prepare your home before your arrival by adjusting the thermostat, coordinating grocery delivery, providing access for service providers, or assisting with other property-related requests tailored to your needs.

Can Home Watch help me meet my insurance requirements?

Many insurance policies require that an unoccupied home be checked regularly. Because every policy is different, we recommend confirming your insurer’s specific requirements. We’ll work with you to establish a Home Watch visit schedule that helps you meet your insurance policy requirements.

How are my keys kept secure?

Client keys are stored securely and are used only for authorized Home Watch visits or Property Concierge services. Protecting your privacy and the security of your property is an important part of our service.

How do I get started?

Getting started is easy. Contact Clé Québec to arrange an initial consultation. We’ll discuss your property, your travel plans, and the Home Watch or Property Concierge services that best suit your needs.

How will we communicate while I’m away?

Once you become a client, you’ll receive Michel’s direct mobile number for ongoing communication regarding your property. Whether you have a question, need assistance, or would like an update, you’ll always have a direct way to reach us.
